Cleveland Bicycle Week

OCBC has been working with several other groups to present a week of cycling activities with the goal of bringing area cyclists together to jump start an advocacy movement here. While OCBC focuses on Education and expressly does not do advocacy, it is important to have a healthy advocacy group to do all the other E's; Encouragement, Engineering, Enforcement and Evaluation (soon to include a sixth, Equity).

In addition, there is a great opportunity for bike education at the meny events you will find at ClevelandBicycleWeek.org

Even if you cannot attend any of these, at least take the ClevelandBikes survey, and let your voice be heard!

Bicycle Scavenger Hunt, May 17th

On May 17th at 10am, as part of Cleveland Bicycle Week, OCBC will be hosting Cleveland's first Bicycle Scavenger Hunt -- the first known presentation of this kind of event anywhere: part alleycat, part critical mass, part transportation-cycling demonstration:

The event is suitable for everyone; you will not need weeks of training, a $2500 bike, the nerves of a bike messenger, or even your own bicycle (rentals are available) to participate. However, a good sense of direction may help. There is no "route" for the ride, but everyone will receive a map with destinations marked, and the "items" you can get at each place. There will be plenty of destinations you can reach without riding on busy streets or going fast, as well as some that you can burn some calories getting to.

How it works:

Get a map of Cleveland landmarks, both popular and obscure, pair up with another cyclist (before, or at the event), and try to find all the clues without getting lost or breaking any traffic laws! Rider orientation, mechanical safety check, bike law briefing, and light breakfast at the start at OCBC; finish at Whiskey Island for award ceremony and speeches. Discounts at shops and restaurants along the way, fun prizes for finishers in many categories. Appropriate for children over 12, Bicycle rentals available. Limited to 60 riders: pre-registration strongly suggested. Cost: $20. Meet at Ohio City Bicycle Co-op, 1823 Columbus Rd, Cleveland. Contact Jim Sheehan at (216) 830-2667 or info@ohiocitycycles.org. Visit http://www.ohiocitycycles.org. Sponsored by Dish Global Deli, Powter Puff Boutique, Room Service Boutique; benefits the Ohio City Bicycle Co-op and Cleveland Bicycle Week.

Please register on our calendar page: you can also pay for registration from there.
